Tom Birch played three seasons for the Purple Eagles from 1948-51. Birch averaged 10 points per game in 83 games played. In 1948-49 he helped Niagara win the Western New York Little Three Conference Championship.

After his tenure with Niagara, Birch joined the Scranton Miners and played two years with them from 1952-54. He averaged 6.4 points per game in 16 games during the 1952-53 season.

Birch also was an NBA referee from 1962-64.
