Women’s Cross Country To Race At Regionals

Northeast Regional Championships
Friday, Nov. 9
Women's 6k – 11 a.m.
Audubon Golf Course – Amherst, NY

The Niagara University women's cross country team is sending seven runners to compete at the Northeast Regional Championships, hosted by the University at Buffalo in Amherst, New York.

Pre-Race Notes
  • Niagara's abbreviated squad will include Nora Klinowski, Julia Freemire, Mallory Ronan, Meggie Hart, Elle Russell, Casey Roman and Grace Kibler.
  • Klinowski finished each of the team's five races with the fastest time of any Niagara runner. She set three personal records this season, two in 5k races and one in a 6k.
  • At MAAC Championships on October 27, Roman (27:02) and Kibler (27:31) set PRs in the 6k.
  • Niagara's best collective showing came on October 13 at the Canisius Alumni Classic. The women had six runners earn their best finish in a 5k as Purple Eagles, not including Klinowski's best 5k time ever.

Coach's Corner
  • Head coach Christine Kloiber: "We're excited to be sending a squad to regionals again. It's been a few years since we last went, but that's because it's a very high-quality meet and we only want to send folks when we know they can perform at that level. This fall we were able to get back into a rhythmand with the race taking place at UB, it was too good of an opportunity to pass up. We have a very young team, but they are exceptionally talented and with them on our squad, we plan to make regionals a regular part of our schedule again for the next few years."

About the Northeast Regional Championships
  • This will be the third time UB has hosted the regionals, and the second time in as many years. The Bulls first hosted the event in 2011.
  • In 2011, Kim Vona led Niagara by finishing the 6k in a time of 23:16, ending up in 121st place out of 243 female runners.
  • The last time Niagara sent a women's squad to the Northeast Regional Championships was 2015, when it was held in Boston's historic Franklin Park. Kayla Murphy had the Purple Eagles' top score with a 23:57. Caroline Hampton followed with a time of 24:27, with Danielle Dorogi (25:39), Tyler Levengood (25:46) and Sarah Grubbs (25:46) completing the team scores.
