Women’s Tennis Battles Fairfield In MAAC Semis Saturday

The second-seeded Niagara Purple Eagles will face the No. 3 seed Fairfield Stags in the 2015 MAAC Tournament Semifinals on Saturday at Mercer County Park in West Windsor, N.J.

  • Niagara (10-7, 7-1 MAAC) enters the championships on a five-match winning streak (Rider, Monmouth, Siena, Fairfield, Marist).
  • Niagara's seven conference wins tie a program record and is the first time NU has won seven MAAC matches since going 7-0 during the 2008-09 season.
  • The five-match win streak is the longest since winning six straight last season and it is the longest streak entering the MAAC Tournament since winning 13 straight entering the 2004 tournament.

  • NU defeated Fairfield, 5-2, on April 11 in Fairfield, Conn.  The Purple Eagles won five of the six singles matches.
  • Niagara is in search of consecutive wins over Fairfield for the first time since winning four straight from 2005-08.
  • Since 2002, NU is 0-6 in the MAAC Tournament against the Stags. The programs have met four times in the semifinals and twice in the finals.
  • NU fell 4-1 to Fairfield in last season's semifinals.
