Hamden, Conn. — Niagara women's tennis fell to Quinnipiac Saturday afternoon 6-1 earning one singles point.
The Bobcats took command early in doubles. Willow Renton and Caitlin Fowler dispatched Larisa Kotok and Gabriela Melo 6-2 at No. 1, and Caroline Schulson and Isabella Sicignano closed out the doubles point with a 6-1 win over Isabel Garcia and Julia Clarke-Louie at No. 3. The No. 2 match between Saloni Tamang and Valeria Mora and the Quinnipiac tandem of Emily Meng and Vera Sekerina ended unfinished at 3-3.
Quinnipiac carried its momentum into singles, with Renton defeating Garcia 6-2, 7-5 at No. 1 to extend the Bobcats' lead. Vera Sekerina handled Kotok 6-4, 6-4 at No. 4, and Anagha Shankar topped Mora 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5. Schulson closed out Clarke-Louie 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.
The lone extended battle came at No. 3, where Caitlin Fowler outlasted Tamang in a three-set match, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.
Niagara's lone point came at No. 2, where Gabriela Melo defeated Isabella Baker in a match that was still in progress at the time of this report, with Melo leading 3-2 in the first set.
