Niagara University, N.Y. — Niagara women's tennis fell to Mount. St. Mary's, 6-1 on Saturday despite winning at No. 1 singles.
Niagara won the once during the double portion, but ultimately dropped the point. Larisa Kotok and Gabriela Melo, defeated Isabella Pescatore and Venus Tang, 6-2, at No. 1 doubles. Mount. St. Mary's answered by taking the next two courts, with Emma Perkins and Anna Barlini edging Saloni Tamang and Valeria Mora, 7-6 (7), at No. 2, and Margherita Trolese and Eirini Tsakiri defeating Garcia and Julia Clarke-Louie, 7-6 (7), at No. 3 to claim the doubles point.
In singles, Garcia was the lone winner for Niagara, dispatching Perkins, 6-3, 6-0, at No. 1. The remaining five positions went to the Mountaineers. Tsakiri outlasted Melo, 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, at No. 2, while Tang defeated Kotok, 6-7 (6), 6-3, 6-4, in the most contested match of the day at No. 3. Trolese rallied past Tamang, 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4.
Mount. St. Mary's closed out the match at Nos. 5 and 6, with Pescatore blanking Mora, 6-0, 6-0, and Barlini defeating Amelia Greenawalt, 6-2, 6-2.
