JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Niagara Purple Eagles improved to 2-0 in MAAC play with a dominating 7-0 win over Saint Peter's on Sunday.
The Purple Eagles, who defeated Manhattan on Friday, were in cruise control in today's match. NU (5-5, 2-0 MAAC) both doubles matches and all five singles matches played; sixth singles was won by default.
The top duo of
Maria Ortiz and
Paulina Velasquez won 8-1 and
Ashley Ta and
Iva Celan won 8-4 in two doubles to take the doubles point. In singles, Celan rallied to win in No. 1 singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-2; Ta won 6-0, 6-4 in two singles; Velasquez won 6-2, 6-0;
Stella Peisakhova defeated Lucia Radonic, 6-1, 6-3 in four singles, and
Brooke Briseno breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 win in six singles.
The Purple Eagles return home to host IPFW on Friday, March 27 at 5 p.m. and Quinnipiac on Saturday, March 28 at 5 p.m.
