The Niagara women's tennis team split a par of matches this weekend. The Purple Eagles cruised past the Bucknell Bison, 6-1, on Saturday before falling to Big 4 rival Buffalo, 7-0, on Sunday.

Niagara University 6, Bucknell 1

The Purple Eagles won two of the three doubles matches to take the point. Maria Ortiz and Paulina Velasquez breezed past Alyssa McAndrew and Stephanie Pino, 8-2, in No. 1 doubles while the No. 3 duo of Iva Celan and Ashley Ta defeated Michele Urbinati and Melissa Parks, 8-7(2).

NU picked up singles wins from the No. 2 through No. 6 spots. Ta and Stella Peisakhova pulled out three set wins while Velasquez, Ortiz and Briseno won in straight sets.

Buffalo 7, Niagara University 0

The Bulls started the match by winning in No. 1 and 2 doubles for the doubles point. NU dropped all six singles match, though Maria Ortiz was nipped in fifth singles by Laura Holterbosch, 6-2, 4-6, 7-6(5).

The Purple Eagles return to the court to host Binghamton on Friday, March 6 at 5 p.m.
