Niagara Opens MAAC Play With A Pair Of Wins Over Mount

Williamsville, N.Y.—Both the Niagara men's and women's tennis teams opened MAAC play on Saturday with wins over Mount St. Mary's.

Men's Recap

The men started the day with a 7-0 win over The Mount.

Doubles

Trevor Masi and Tanner Bedard team for first doubles and came away with a 6-1 win to open the day.

Gurustat Makkar and Rohan Srivastava notched the doubles point for the Purple Eagles as they wo in second doubles 6-4.

Singles

Bedard won the first singles match in first singles as he won in straight sets 6-2, 6-1.

Masi notched a three set win in second singles. He won the first set 6-2 before falling 7-6 in the second set. In the third set he came away with a 10-5 win.

Freshman Vid Maric recovered from a first set loss with back to back set wins in third singles.

José Maria García won in straight sets in fourth singles. He won the opening set 6-2 before taking the second set 7-5.

Makkar completely swept in match in fifth singles as he won 6-0, 6-0.

Manuel Alonso notched a win in sixth singles. He won the opening set 6-2 before winning the second set 6-3.

Women's Recap

The women edged out The Mount with a 4-3 win on Saturday.

Doubles

Jaida Borg and Enrica Favaron won in third doubles 6-0 but they were the only Purple Eagles duo to win in doubles.

Singles

Coral Rodriguez was the first Purple Eagle to pick up a win for the Purple Eagles as she won 7-6 in her first set and 6-3 in the second set.

Borg tied the match two in fourth singles. She won the first set 6-2 before falling 6-4 in the second set. She secured the win in the third set with a 6-4 win.

Enrica Favaron won in sixth singles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.

Gabriela Melo secured the match for the Purple Eagles with a three set win. After falling in the first set she won the second set 7-6 win and a 6-3 win in the third set.

Up Next

Both teams are back in action on Mar. 23 as they take on Siena at Village Glen.
