Purple Eagles Drop Home Match To Le Moyne

Williamsville, N.Y.—The Niagara tennis teams faced Le Moyne to close out the weekend on Sunday. Both the men's and women's teams fell 4-3 to the Dolphins.

Women's Recap

Doubles

The duo of Gabriela Melo and Coral Rodriguez paired up in first doubles and took their match 6-1 over the Dolphins.

Elena Mayet and Jaida Borg were paired up in second doubles, the duo fell 7-5 in their match.

Larisa Kotok and Enrica Favaron looked to take third doubles, they could not secure the win as they fell 7-5.

Singles

Mayet was slotted in first singles and came away with a win in straight sets. She won the first set 6-4 before taking the second set 6-2.

Rodriguez needed three sets to get a win in second singles. She took the opening set 6-2 before dropping the second set 6-0. In the third set she secured a win with a 6-1 win in the third set.

Melo notched a three set win in third singles. She won the first set 7-5 before falling 6-4 in the second set. In the third set she took the win with a 6-2 win.

Borg played in fourth singles, she fell in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Mercedes Velasco was slotted in fifth singles. She fell 6-4 in the first set and responded in the second set with a 6-3 win. She ultimately fell in the third set 6-4.

Favaron played in sixth singles for the Purple Eagles. She fell 6-2 in the first set and forced a third set as she won 7-6 in the second set. In the third set she fell 6-1.

Men's Recap

Doubles

The freshman duo of Vid Maric and José Maria García came away with Niagara's only doubles win as they won 6-3 in third doubles.

Trevor Masi and Tanner Bedard fell 7-6 in first doubles.

Gurustata Makkar and Manuel Alonso fell in 6-3 in their second doubles match.

Singles

Bedard was slotted in first singles and won the first set 6-4. He secured the win the second set as he won 6-4 to give Niagara a point.

Maric was coming off a win in doubles and used the momentum in second singles. Maric won the first set 6-3 and secured the win with a 6-2 win in the second set.

Roberto Vaca picked up the third Purple Eagle win in sixth singles. He won the first set 6-4 and then took the match win with a 6-4 win in the second set.

Garcia was slotted into third singles. He fell 6-3 in the first set but responded with a 6-2 win in the third set. He could not complete the comeback as he fell 6-0 in the third set.

Alonso took the opening set of his fourth singles match 6-3. In the second set he fell 6-3 before falling 7-6 in the tiebreaker set.

Makkar fell 6-3 in the first set in his fifth singles match. In the set he took the set 6-4 to forced a third set. He could not complete the comeback as he fell 6-3 in the third set.

Up Next

Both teams have 18 days off and are not back in action until Mar. 8 when they hit the road to take on Colgate.
