Cambridge, Mass.—The Niagara women's team traveled to Harvard for the ITA Regionals that run from Friday to Sunday.
Coral Rodriguez and Elena Mayet were the highest Niagara team in the draw in doubles. The duo faced a team from Le Moyne and fell in the opening round 8-3.
Enrina Favaron and freshman Larisa Kotok drew the 32nd seed in the round of 64 as they faced a duo from Providence. The Purple Eagles swept the match as they won 8-0 to advance to the round of 32. In the round of 32 the Niagara duo faced a team from MAAC rival Quinnipiac. Niagara could not advance as they fell 8-4 in the round of 32.
Mayet drew the 15th seed in the singles draw, she matched up with a player from Providence. After falling 6-2 in the first set, Mayet responded with a 6-4 win in the second set to force a third set. In a back and forth third set, Mayet prevailed with a 10-8 win to advance. She is back in action Saturday as she faces a player from Buffalo.
Mercedes Velasco was the second highest seeded Purple Eagle as she drew the 63rd seed. In the opening set she fell 6-3 to a player from Providence. In the second set, Velasco forced a third set with a 6-2 win. In the tiebreaker, she took the win 10-4 to advance to the round of 32. She will face a player from Boston University on Saturday.
Jaida Borg was in action as the 72nd seed as she was also matched up against a player from Providence. She advanced in straight sets as she won the first set 6-4 and the second set 6-2. In round of 32 she will face Ahlstrom from Brown.
Rodriguez drew the 96th seed in the opening draw and faced Campino from UMass. Rodriguez fell in straight sets, 6-1,6-1.
The Purple Eagles are back on the court on Saturday in day two of the ITA Regionals.
