NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – The Niagara women's tennis team will begin the spring portion of its schedule this weekend with matches against IUP and Bucknell. Both matches will be at the Village Glenn Tennis Courts in Williamsville, NY.
The Purple Eagles and Hawks will go head-to-head on Friday at 7 p.m. and Niagara will take on the Bison on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Last Time Out
• Niagara wrapped up the fall with the UB Invite last November.

Erika Gonzalez picked up the team's lone singles win of the weekend against Cornell's El Ashram in straight sets, (6-3, 7-6 (6))
• In a doubles match with UB's Amat and Schietekat, Niagara's
Elena Mayet and
Megan Gamble battled but came up short, 7-5, in the match.
• Niagara finished the weekend 1-17 in singles action and 0-6 in doubles play.
Niagara Notes
• In dual matches this season,
Jaida Borg is 1-1, with her win coming in No. 4 singles.
• Gonzalez is also 1-1 in Niagara's dual matches this season, with her win coming in No. 5 singles against St. Bonaventure in the fall.
• Mayet and Gamble have the lone duals doubles win this season, defeating the Bonnies No. 1 pairing to help Niagara pick up three points in the loss to St. Bonaventure.
• Niagara fell to St. Bonaventure and Buffalo on Sept. 17 and are currently 0-2 in head-to-head matches this season.
• At the Siena Invite last fall,
Coral Rodriguez defeated St. Francis' Brooklyn's Varvarigos 8-3.
• Borg Gonzalez and Gamble also picked up wins at the Siena Invite.
• Mayet, Gamble and
Mercedes Velasco all picked up singles wins at the Bucknell Invitational, while Mayet and Gamble won their doubles match.
• At the ITA Regionals, Rodriguez and Borg each won their round of 128 matches.
Up Next
• The Purple Eagles will host Saint Francis (Pa.) for a dual match on Saturday, Feb. 12. The match will also serve as the men's teams spring season opener.
