Tennis Host Saint Francis Saturday, Women Travel to Syracuse Sunday

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY – Niagara men's and women's tennis teams will host Saint Francis (Pa.) on Saturday at the Village Glen Tennis Courts. On Sunday, the women will travel to Syracuse to meet with the Orange.

Last Time Out: Women
• Niagara fell to both IUP and Bucknell to open the spring season.
Erika Gonzalez picked up the team's lone win on the weekend, winning in the fourth singles slot, 7-6(2) and 7-6(6), over IUP's Katy Graydon.
Elena Mayet went three sets in No. singles against IUP but fell.
Megan Gamble also took her IUP opponent to three sets after winning the second. The grad student would end up falling later in the day.
• Niagara wouldn't pick up a win against Bucknell on Saturday and fell in straight-sets in each singles match.

Last Time Out: Men
• The Purple and White will begin spring competition this weekend after going 3-0 in dual matches in the fall.
• Niagara defeated Walsh, LeMoyne, and Daemen most recently in the fall.
• Niagara swept Daemen as Trevor Masi and Tanner Bedard, and Jorge Sedeno and Eduardo Villalpando defeated the Daemen doubles pairings to earn the point.
Manuel Alonso picked up a win in the No. 1 singles slot, while Masi and Sedeno picked up victories in two and three.
• In No. 4 singles, Bedard dispatched his opponent in straight sets.
William Gothlin and Villalpando won their No. 5, and No. 6 singles match to complete the sweep of the Wildcats.

Niagara Notes: Women
Erika Gonzalez is 2-2 on the year, picking up wins in the fourth and fifth position.
Jaida Borg is 1-3 entering the weekend, with her lone win coming in No. 4 singles during the fall.
• Freshman Mercedes Velasco is also 1-3 in dual matches this season. Her first collegiate win came in the sixth position over St. Bonaventure in the fall.
• Mayet and Gamble hold the teams' lone doubles win and are currently 1-3 in the No. 1 doubles slot.

Niagara Notes: Men
• Masi finished the fall 3-0, picking up all his wins from the second position.
• Andrus and Bedard also finished the fall undefeated in dual singles, going 2-0 in their matches.
• Alonso finished the fall 1-2 in No. 1 singles, with his lone win coming against Daemen.
• Niagara is undefeated in the No. 2, No. 3, and 6 singles spots.

• The Purple and White will take on Colgate, Lafayette, and Hobart on the road to close out February.
