CLEVELAND, OHIO – The Niagara women's tennis team completed the three-day Viking Invite hosted by Cleveland State this weekend.
Friday Recap
• Niagara took on the host Cleveland State in singles action.
• The Purple Eagles lone singles win of the afternoon came when
Coral Rodriguez defeated Oihane Vicario, 6-7 (8), 6-2, 1-0 (3).
• The five other Purple Eagles dropped their singles matches in straight-sets.
• Niagara took on Duquesne and Youngstown State in doubles action. The Dukes and Penguins took all six doubles matches from the Purple and White.
Saturday Recap
• NU took on Cleveland State in doubles play with
Erika Gonzalez and
Enrica Favaron topped Oihane Vicario and Tereze Vevere, 4-3, def.
• The Purple Eagles also took on the Dukes in doubles action for a second day in a row. This time the Purple Eagles took one of three matches. Gonzalez and Favaron once again teamed up for a 7-5 win over Jasa Roka and Ana Benito.
• Niagara and YSU went head-to-head in singles action with the Purple and White picking up a pair of wins.
• Favaron topped Eliska Masarikova, 5-6, ab., for her first singles victory of the weekend.
•
Mercedes Velasco defeated Moka Ito, 3-0, ab., to join her teammates Favaron and Rodriguez with singles wins.
Sunday Recap
• The Purple and White took on Duquesne in singles action again Sunday morning.
• Gonzalez and Favaron also won their third doubles match of the weekend, topping Oihane Vicario and Tereze Vevere of CSU, 4-3, ret.
Up Next
• Niagara will play it's first home match of the season against Daemen on Oct. 23 at the South Towns Tennis Courts in Orchard Park, N.Y. The dual will begin at 4:30 p.m.
