Tennis Wraps Up Siena Invite

LOUDONVILLE, NY – The Niagara men's and women's tennis teams took part in the Siena Invitational to start the weekend, picking up multiple wins on both sides, highlighted by 12 singles wins.

Men's Summary
Singles
• The men's team picked up eight wins in singles action throughout the weekend.
• Junior Manuel Alonso won both his matches on Friday before falling in his final match of the Siena Invite on Sunday.
• Trevor Masi finished the weekend 2-1 in his games, defeating St. Francis Brooklyn's Nilsson (8-1) and Lafayette's Ganchi (8-1).
• After falling in his first match of the weekend, Tanner Bedard bounced back with two straight wins, 8-5 and 8-1.
• Roberto Vaca secured Niagara's final two wins in singles with an 8-1 win over MAAC foe De Jariz, as well as an 8-6 battle with St. Francis' Felipe.

Doubles
• Gothlin and Alonso picked up the Purple Eagles lone win in doubles action, a 6-1 victory over Lafayette's Richey and Wolfe.

Women's Summary
Singles
• Coral Rodriguez defeated the Terriers Varvarigos in her first singles match on Friday, an 8-3 win for the sophomore.
• In Flight B, Jaida Borg won her first match without surrendering a point to her opponent, 8-0.
• Erika Gonzalez won a competitive match, 8-7 (2), over Colgate's Atallah, before falling later in the afternoon on Friday to Siena's Boggiali.
• Megan Gamble picked up a win on Saturday, dropping Sacred Heart's Kempinski, 8-6.

Doubles
• Niagara's duo of Shea and Borg picked up two wins in doubles play, including a 6-4 win over Sparhawk and DeNardo of Lafayette, followed by a 6-2 victory against Saint Francis' Castro and Rajesh.
• The pairing fell to Sacred Heart's Kempinski and O'Donavan in the Flight C semi's by a final of 6-2.

Up Next
• Niagara will host Walsh University (Ohio) at the Niagara Tennis Courts Sunday afternoon. The women will open the day at 11 a.m., followed by the men at 2:30 p.m.
