ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The Niagara University women's tennis team played in its second invitational of the fall season, competing at the 2019 Bill and Sandra Moore Invitational hosted by the US Naval Academy. Sophomore
Erika Gonzalez captured the consolation title in both singles and doubles to highlight the Purple Eagles' weekend.
Invitational Summary
Singles
- Sofia Gonzalez captured the "B" Courage Singles Flight Consolation Final. After losing her first round match three sets, Gonzalez bounced back by winning her next three matches. She defeated FDU's Tatiana Eftenolu, 8-1, SBU's Andrea Roque, 8-2, and FDU's Amina Lasheen in a walkover.
- Andreea Peteu and Olga Donchu played in the "A" Honor Singles Flight. They both lost their first round match, but ended up playing each other in the consolation final. Donchu came out on top, 8-7 (5).
- Megan Gamble and Madigan Humiston competed in the "C" Commitment Singles Flight. Gamble advanced to the consolation final where she fell to SBU's Amara Young, 8-3.
Doubles
- The team of Erika Gonzalez and Megan Gamble competed in the "B" Courage Doubles Flight. After dropping their first round match, the duo reeled off three straight wins to take the consolation crown. They beat FDU's Guila & Imanescu, 6-4, Lehigh's Friedman & Meighan, 8-6, and Binghamton's Eisenberg and Granieri, 6-4, in the final.
- Andreea Peteu and Olga Donchu played in the "A" Honor Doubles Flight. The duo dropped matches to teams from Bucknell and Lehigh.
