St. Bonaventure, N.Y. – The Niagara women's tennis team picked up its second win in three matches with a 5-2 victory over local rival St. Bonaventure on Saturday.

After dropping the doubles point, the Purple Eagles (2-1) won five of the six singles matches.

NU leveled the match at 1-1 in No. 3 singles when Sydnee Wheeler defeated Mariam Skhirtladze in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Haley Hollins outlasted Gabriella Bowe in No. 2 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (3) to put NU ahead.

Shannon Wong made it 3-1 with a three-set win over Dominique Mortier, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 and Stella Peisakhova clinched the match with a 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 win in No. 1 singles. Sharlee Deshmukh won her second straight match of the week with a three-set win in No. 5 singles.

NU is back on the court when it hosts Duquesne on February 6 at 1 p.m. at South Towns Tennis Club in Orchard Park, N.Y.
