WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. – The Niagara Purple topped the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash, 6-1, in their spring opener.
The Purple Eagles benefitted from Saint Francis not having a player to compete in No. 3 doubles or in No. 5 and 6 singles. NU took advantage by winning the doubles point and three singles matches.
The duo of
Haley Hollins and
Sydnee Wheeler won in two doubles, 6-2, to secure the doubles point. In singles action, Wheeler defeated Dani Gryckiewicz, 6-3, 6-4, in No. 3 singles,
Stella Peisakhova won in three sets in No. 1 singles, and
Shannon Wong beat Stephanie Miller, 6-4, 7-6, in No. 4 singles for the win.
Niagara is back on the court on Jan. 29 at Akron.
