NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles finished their MAAC schedule with a dominating sweep of the Siena Saints on Thursday.
 
Niagara (12-7, 6-2 MAAC) recorded its fourth sweep of an opponent this season, all MAAC foes. The Purple Eagles won the doubles point by picking up identical 8-2 wins in No. 1 and No. 2 doubles. NU followed by winning all seven singles matches.
 
Paulina Velasquez started things with a 6-1, 6-3 win in No. 3 singles for her 11th straight victory to improve to 8-0 in MAAC play. Her 20 wins are the most since Niagara Hall of Famer Milena Matijevic's 23 wins during the 2003-04 season. Sarah Hellstern eased past Ali Garrity, 6-3, 6-3, in top singles; Ashley Ta held off Carly Holloway, 6-1, 0-6, 6-4 in No. 2 singles; Iva Celan cruised to a straight set win in five singles; Maria Ortiz won her seventh straight match to also improve to 8-0 in league play; Jenna McCune outlasted her opponent in three sets to wrap up the win.
 
The Purple Eagles will host St. Bonaventure in the regular season finale on Monday before heading to the MAAC Tournament next week.
