NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. – The Niagara women's tennis team slipped past the Binghamton Bearcats, 4-3, on Friday night.
The tandem of
Sarah Hellstern and
Paulina Velasquez helped push Niagara to its third victory of the spring season. The duo clinched the doubles point for the Purple Eagles with a tie-break, 8-7 (4) win in No. 1 doubles.
Velasquez won her singles match in straight sets, 6-0, 6-2, in four singles. With the match knotted at 3-3, Hellstern outlasted Binghamton's Katherine Medianik 6-3, 6-7 (0), 7-5 in No. 1 singles to clinch the match.
Niagara will head to central Florida next week where it will play Stetson, Michigan State, Montana State-Billings, St. Cloud State and Eastern Florida State from March 3-8.
