Baseball Heads South To Buffalo For Final MAAC Weekend

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles wrap up their conference schedule with a three-game set against the Canisius Golden Griffins in downtown Buffalo. 
 
This weekend’s series will consist of three games in three days with Friday’s opener getting started at 6:30 p.m.  Saturday’s seven-inning game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday’s Mother’s Day matchup is a 2:00 p.m. start. 
 
The Purple Eagles (16-32, 9-12 MAAC) are looking for their first win over Canisius since the 2011 season when they took the final game of the series 14-5.  Joel Klock hit 2-for-4 that afternoon with an RBI and a run scored.  Klock also started the game on the mound, pitching 7.2 innings and giving up five runs on seven hits while striking out seven.
 
Ryan McCauley has hit his stride late in the season for Niagara, hitting .611 over the last five games with three doubles, a home run, and six RBIs.  Jordan Schwartz is also running through the bag at the end of the year, hitting at a .368 clip.  Kyle Olver, who is expected to start game one, is coming off of an outing where he pitched 8.1 innings and gave up two runs on eight hits while striking out six.  Geoff Soja made two appearances out of the bullpen, went 6.1 innings, gave up one run on five hits, and struck out seven without issuing a walk. 
 
Canisius (34-13, 11-7 MAAC) is 3-2 in its last five games with a pair of wins coming against Siena and one against St. Bonaventure.  Righty Garret Cortright (9-2) is expected to throw in the opener with Alex Godzak (7-2) and Devon Stewart (3-5) pitching in games two and three, respectively.  Jimmy Lupins leads the team at the plate with a .376 average, five homeruns, and 39 RBIs.
