Wappingers Falls, NY - Niagara baseball fell to Fairfield 4-3 in the Second Round of the MAAC Championships at Heritage Financial Park.
Fairfield got on the board first in the top of the second with an RBI double from Nomura. The Stags doubled their lead in the third inning with a sac fly from Kuczik that plated Schmalze.
Niagara starter Reuben Malamed was pulled for reliever Jack Dickinson in the third. Fairfield added another run in the fourth with a solo home run from Stephenson.Â
The Purple Eagles got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the frame, starting with Curtis McKay scoring on a wild pitch. Jason Green followed that up with an RBI double that plated Noah Konings. Nick Cote knotted things up at three with an RBI single that allowed Jason Green to come home and beat the play at the plate.
Dickinson allowed one run on four hits in 4.0 innings of work with three strikeouts before Andrew Damiani came in for the seventh.
The Stags regained the lead in the top of the seventh off a single through the left side from Bucciero which brought home Schmalze and that was enough to earn the victory.
