Box Score 1 | Box Score 2
BUFFALO, N.Y. – After Friday’s game was postponed due to weather, the Niagara Purple Eagles faced the Canisius Golden Griffins in a twin-billing on Saturday and dropped a close match-up in game one 4-3 and fell in game two 22-1.

Game One
The Purple Eagles (16-34, 9-14 MAAC) led for most of the opener after they struck first for the 10th-consecutive game.  Michael Fuhrman led things off with a single up the middle.  Jordan Schwartz picked an opportune time to hit his first triple of the season and put NU up 1-0.

The visitors extended their lead in the third.  A Kevin Paulsen single and a double from Thomas Rodrigues put two runners in scoring position for Ryan McCauley   The senior took sole possession of third place in program history with a double that bounced over the short wall in center for his 203rd hit and put the lead at 2-0.  A single through the right side from Greg Rodgers gave the Purps a 3-0 lead.

Niagara kept the lead until the bottom of the ninth thanks to a valiant performance on the mound from Kyle Olver (3-8).  The freshman kept Canisius (36-13, 13-7 MAAC) without a hit through 2.1 innings.  The Golden Griffs got on the board in the fourth inning with a single and cut the deficit to 3-2 with a solo homerun in the fifth.

A one-two-three inning from Olver in the eighth allowed the righty to go for the complete game but Canisius came back in the last of the ninth to take the opener 4-3.

Olver finished with eight innings pitched and gave up four runs, three earned, on eight hits and struck out four.  Seven Purple Eagles collected a hit; Rodgers finished the game 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI.

Game Two
The Purple Eagles threatened early as Fuhrman again led off with a single and McCauley singled to put runners on first and second.  The single gave the redshirt-senior 204 hits in his career and tied him for fourth place all-time in NU history.

Niagara couldn’t bring a runner around in that first inning, allowing the Griffs to jump out to an early 2-0 lead in that opening frame.  They added to their lead over the next three innings to take a 22-0 lead.  Klock led off the bottom of the seventh with a triple and was brought around by Jeff Calhoon to make the score 22-1.

Schwartz (3-6) started the game and took the loss after throwing 3.1 innings.

The team wraps up its regular season MAAC schedule with tomorrow’s final game against Canisius.  First pitch has been moved up to 1:00 p.m. to try and stay ahead of the weather.
