NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – A late rally in the seventh wasn’t enough for the Purple Eagles who saw their winning streak snapped at five games after a 13-6 loss to Iona on Sunday afternoon.
Facing an 8-2 deficit heading into the bottom half of the seventh inning, the Purple Eagles (9-20, 5-4 MAAC) would have the lead down to two runs by the end of the inning.

Thomas Rodrigues brought home both runners with a double to right and scored as Joel Klock followed up with a triple. The scoring wrapped up with a
Michael Fuhrman single scored Klock from third and cut the deficit to 8-6.
The Gaels (4-26, 1-8 MAAC) added five runs over the final two innings to come away with the 13-6 win.
The visitors opened the game with a run in the first then another pair in the second after a lengthy weather delay. The Purple Eagles managed a pair of runs in the third to make it a 3-2 game, but two runs in the fourth and three in the firth gave Iona the 8-2 lead.
Jim Fort (2-4) got the start and pitched just the first inning before the game was put on hold for over three hours. He gave up two hits and a run in the one inning of work. Klock led the team at the plate with a 2-for-3 outing with a RBI, a run, and two walks on the afternoon.
Niagara is back on the field this Tuesday when it faces Little Three rival St. Bonaventure for a doubleheader at Sal Maglie Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
