AMHERST, N.Y. – The Purple Eagles extended their win-streak over the UB Bulls to five with a 9-3 victory on Tuesday afternoon.
The Purple Eagles (13-27) wasted no time getting on the board by jumping out to a 6-0 lead in the top half of the opening frame.
Michael Fuhrman opened the show with a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Both
Joel Klock and
Ryan McCauley sent singles through the right side, the latter scoring the first run of the game.
Greg Rodgers’ RBI single was book-ended by doubles by
Christian Vangeison and
Pavel Chavez-Rusova Vangeison’s scored one run while Chazez-Rusova’s scored a pair.
Thomas Rodrigues rounded out the first-inning scoring with a RBI-double of his own.
UB (21-17) was never able to climb out of the early hole thanks to a stellar performance from NU starter
Anthony Caringi (1-3). The righty, who earned his first win of the year, shut out the Bulls though five innings where he gave up just three hits and struck out four.
Ben Zaccagnino pitched three innings out of the bullpen and gave up one run in the eighth but struck out three without issuing a walk.
Connor Sullivan closed out the game giving up two runs, only one of which was earned, on a single hit to cement the 9-3 victory.
Niagara added to its early lead in the third inning with a RBI-double from
Logan Linder in the third inning and again in the eighth with a Rodrigues RBI-single and a SAC-fly from Fuhrman.
Vangeison finished afternoon 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
The team is back on the diamond when it resumes MAAC-play on Saturday when it travels to Fairfield for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
