Previous Student-Athlete of the Week Winners

NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – Rookie Logan Linder led the way offensively for the Niagara baseball team as the Purple Eagles took two out of three games in their series against Delaware State last weekend.

The righty went 5-for-9 at the plate with four RBIs, three walks, and a stolen base.

After going 1-for-3 as a starter in Friday’s opener, the freshman came off the bench in the third inning of game two.  He made an impact in his first at bat; he drew a walk, stole second to get into scoring position, then scored on a single.  In the top of the next inning, Linder brought in a pair of key runs with a two-out single that kept NU in the lead throughout the next two innings.  He also finished Saturday 1-for-3 at the plate.

Back in the lineup as a starter on Sunday, the Burgettstown, Pa. native reached base all five times he went to the dish.  He led off the second inning with a double before drawing a walk in the fourth.  He was one of two runs that inning that tied the game at 5-5.  He drew another walk in the fifth, this time with the bases loaded, to bring in another run and was brought around later in the inning to make him a part of two of NU’s five runs in the frame.  He added another RBI in the sixth with a single and finished the game with another single in the eighth.  Linder finished Sunday going 3-for-3 at the plate with two walks and two RBIs.

On top of the centerfielder’s .556 batting average for the weekend, he turned in a .667 on base percentage and a .667 slugging percentage.

Linder and the Purple Eagles are back on the diamond today at they face the Kansas State at 4 p.m.
