NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. - The Purple Eagles non-conference schedule takes them to Dover, Del. this weekend to play the Delaware State University Hornets in a three-game series.
The Purple Eagles (1-6) earned their first win of the season last week with a 4-2 victory over Tennessee Tech.
Kyle Olver got his first collegiate win in his first start for NU, a nine-inning performance that won the freshman the MAAC Rookie of the Week award. He also leads all starters with a 2.00 ERA while
Jordan Schwartz is 1-for-1 in save situations.
On offense,
Michael Fuhrman enters the weekend with a team-high .333 batting average.
Christian Vangeison leads the team in RBIs, with five, and
Ryan McCauley is in the lead with two homeruns.
Delaware State (3-2) is on a three-game winning streak after taking two games from Winthrop and one from Army last weekend. Before the streak it dropped its first two games of the year. This will be their first home weekend. JP Frey leads the Hornets with a .409 average while Aaron Nardone is in the lead with three extra-base hits. Both Matt McClain and Jordan Elliott have pitched shutouts through a combined 11 innings and two starts.
The series gets started on Friday with first-pitch at 2:00 p.m. Both Saturday’s and Sunday’s games are scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m..
