Women’s Tennis Drops Match To Bonaventure, 5-2

NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. – The Niagara women’s tennis team wrapped up its non-conference schedule with a 5-2 setback against rival St. Bonaventure on Wednesday at SportsPlex.

Niagara’s No. 1 Hilary Hansen and No. 4 Maria Ortiz each notched singles win for the Purple Eagles (5-12). Hansen won in straight sets over SBU’s (11-8) Marcela Marin-Salcedo, 7-5, 6-4 while Ortiz’s opponent retired midway through the first set.

Ortiz and Hansen are one and two, respectively, on the team in wins. Ortiz leads the team with a 14-3 record and has won her last six matches; Hansen is 11-6.

Niagara heads on the road this weekend with conference matches against Rider on Saturday and Manhattan on Sunday with a chance to still qualify for the conference tournament.
