ST.BONAVENTURE, N.Y. - The Niagara women's tennis team was edged by its Little 3 rival, St. Bonaventure, 4-3 on Tuesday night.
An under woman Niagara squad battled its way against a tough Bonnies' squad, dropping two matches due to forfeits. The tandem of Brittany Walters and Raquel Solis defeated Kathryn Kvas and Kalis Garcia-Rojas, 8-5, to tie the doubles at 1-1. However, the Purple Eagles had to forfeit the No. 3 doubles match due to injury.
Niagara received strong outings in singles play. Hilary Hansen topped SBU's No. 1 Maria Barousse, 7-6 (5), 6-3, Walters won her seventh-straight match when she defeated Garcia-Rojas, 6-0, 6-2, and Julia Gray beat Riley Archer, 2-6, 6-4, 10-5. Unfortunately for the Purple Eagles, they had to forfeit the sixth singles match which gave SBU its third singles win and tipped the duel in its favor.
Niagara returns home and to conference play when its faces Fairfield on Saturday at the Niagara Tennis Facility.
