POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The Niagara men’s and women’s tennis teams both returned to conference action after a two week break with equal 6-1 defeats to the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion.

The men’s team (8-12, 2-2 MAAC) had already dropped the doubles point by the time Jeremy Quiroz and Matthew Kane defeated Marist’s (7-5, 4-0 MAAC) Rhys Hobbs and Landon Greene, 8-4, in the number one doubles match.

In singles action, the Purple Eagles lost the No. 5 and No. 3 singles matches in straight set before Quiroz defeated Christian Coley in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0, in the No. 1 singles match.  Niagara would drop the next three matches.

In women’s action, Niagara (5-14, 2-2 MAAC) was swept in doubles play in order and fell in an early hole in singles action. The Purple Eagles lost the first three singles matches in straight set and lost the number one singles match between Hilary Hansen and Marist’s (6-7, 4-0 MAAC) Kelsey Raynor, 3-6, 6-4, 10-7.

Niagara’s lone win came from junior Brittany Walters when she defeated Jeannie Lukin 3-6, 6-2, 10-7, for her fifth-straight win.

Both Niagara teams are in action tomorrow at Siena.
