North Tonawanda, N.Y.- The Niagara women's tennis team dropped its first match of the weekend to the visiting Syracuse Orange by a score of 7-0. The junior pairing of Raquel Solis (Puebla, Mexico) and Brittany Walters (Buffalo, N.Y.) put in a strong effort in the second doubles match but were downed by Simone Kalhorn and CC Sardinha of Syracuse, 8-3.
In the top singles match Sardinha was too much for Niagara's Hilary Hansen (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) as she beat Hansen by the score of 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Julia Gray (Halifax, Nova Scotia) put in a strong effort in te final singles matchup but she was beaten by Kalhorn of Syracuse by the score of 6-0, 6-3.
Syracuse University swept both the singles and the doubles points en route to a 7-0 victory over the Purple Eagles.
The Niagara Women's tennis team will return to action on Saturday, Feb. 27th against the visiting Binghamton Bearcats at the sportsplex in North Tonawanda, N.Y.
