OLEAN, N.Y. – The Niagara women’s tennis team closed out its regular season with a 4-3 defeat to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies on Tuesday afternoon.
Niagara (9-11) dropped the doubles point, despite winning one match by forfeit.
Down 3-0, Vanja Lakic (Waterloo, Ont.) topped Vanessa Rumpel, 62 60, for Niagara’s first win on the day. Victoria Tiso (Clarence, N.Y.) lost the deciding match to Ana Delgado, 64 63. Niagara picked up the last two points from Brittany Walters (Buffalo, N.Y.), who won against Eileen Horgan in straight-sets, 61 61, and won the last match by forfeit.
Niagara, which clinched the MAAC regular season championship last week, will open the 2009 MAAC Championships on Friday, April 17 from the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center from Queen, N.Y.
