HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Niagara women’s tennis team found itself down 2-1 and trailing in four matches, but came away with a 5-2 win over Western Carolina in its last matches in South Carolina.
“In my 15 years of coaching, those were some of the best matches I have seen,” head coach Paul Calkins said. “We had to fight and deal with adversity to win those matches.”
Niagara (4-6) lost the double point by losing two of three matches.
Alyssa Lucas (Clarkston, Mich.), Raquel Solis (Puebla, Mexico), Vanja Lakic (Waterloo, Ont.) and Victoria Tiso (Clarence, N.Y.) were in three set matches; all four won the matches.
Tiso had the most dramatic finish. She was down 5-3 in the final set and rallied to win 75.
Niagara returns home for a conference match against Rider on March 8.
