NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. – The Niagara tennis teams were victorious over MAAC rival the Siena Saints on Saturday afternoon. The men’s team shutout the Saints, 7-0, while the women’s team won 5-2.
The Niagara men’s team improved to 4-9 and 3-1 in the MAAC with an outstanding performance.
“I’m proud of the effort,” men’s head coach Anthony Nguyen said. “It was nice having some healthy bodies out there; everyone took care of business.”
Niagara swept the double matches winning 82 82 85 in the three matches. Marc Dickinson (Saskatoon, Saks.) and David Lemieux-Sarrasin (Lorraine, Que.) returned from injuries with victories. Dickinson’s match was the only match to go into three sets.
The women’s team had to comeback to finish of the Saints. The Purple Eagles dropped the double point to Siena after losing two of three matches and were down 2-0 after the first single match.
Alyssa Lucas (Clarkston, Mich.) got the ball rolling for Niagara with a 62 64 win; Niagara didn’t drop a single set afterwards.
“We were able to shake off a rough start today,” women’s head coach Paul Calkins said. “We were able to refocus in the single matches.”
Niagara (7-9, 5-0 MAAC) stays undefeated in MAAC play.
Both teams will face Marist tomorrow afternoon .
