ITHACA, N.Y. – The women’s tennins team dropped its dual match with St. Bonaventure at home on Saturday. The Purple Eagles scored four singles wins but were shutout on the doubles end of the dual.
Senior co-captain Shella Dargout (Rochester, N.Y.) and Emma Cunnington (Victoria, B.C.) picked up the first two singles wins of the day. Dargout topped Ana Delgado (6-4, 7-5), while Cunnington beat Maria Barousse (6-1, 2-6, 10-8).
Freshman Brittany Walters (Buffalo, N.Y.) won an exhibition match and then picked up a singles victory in the second half of the day, defeating Vanessa Rumpel (6-3, 6-2). Classmate Raquel Solis (Puebla, Mexico) bested Yolande Callaghan (7-6 (2), 7-5) to round out the Niagara victories.
The Purple Eagles participate in the Buffalo-Niagara Tournament, Oct. 6-7. The opening day takes place at the Niagara Tennis facility.
