Women’s Tennis Wins Eighth Match of the Season

JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Niagara University women’s tennis team (8-8, 5-0) won its third consecutive match and eighth of the season with a 5-1 win Sunday over Saint Peter’s College.

In doubles, senior Jennifer Cremieux (Ajax, Ont.) and freshman Molly Mathews (Pittsburgh, Pa.) defeated Vanessa Pangikas and Angela Wiggs 6-3 retire. The senior duo of Jacquelyn Cary (Selkirk, Ont.) and Julianne Prokopich (Loretto, Ont.) beat Kristy Bonner and Andrea Estay, 8-1. Junior Kim Roberts (Victoria, B.C.) and sophomore Victoria Tiso (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) won by default at No. 3.

In singles, sophomore Vanja Lakic (Waterloo, Ont.) lost 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 to Pangikas at No. 1. Prokopich defeated Wiggs, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 2, and junior Shella Dargout (Rochester, N.Y.) downed Bonner, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3.

Tiso won at No. 4, beating Estay, 6-1, 1-6, 10-7, and Roberts defeated Jing Cheung, 6-1, 6-2. Saint Peter’s defaulted the No. 6 match.

Niagara returns to action April 10 when it hosts Mercyhurst at 3 p.m.
