NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s tennis team (6-8, 3-0) remained undefeated in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play Saturday posting its fourth shut out of the season with a 7-0 victory over Rider University (5-8, 1-3) at the Sportsplex.
Junior Shella Dargout (Rochester, N.Y.) won her 10th match of the season and improved to 3-0 in league play with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Kristina Paich at No. 4 singles.
Sophomore Vanja Lakic (Waterloo, Ont.) captured her first MAAC win at No. 1 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Caitlin Crawbuck.
Freshman Molly Mathews (Pittsburgh, Pa.) is now 2-0 in conference action with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles over Danielle Morse.
Also winning at singles were senior Julianne Prokopich (Loretto, Ont.), junior Kim Roberts (Victoria, B.C.) and sophomore Victoria Tiso (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence).
In doubles, Dargout and Lakic beat Caitlin and Devin Crawbuck, 8-4, at No. 1. At No. 2, Prokopich and Tiso downed Morse and Paich, 8-2, and Mathews and Roberts defeated Danielle Cheong and Kelly-Ann Chouinard, 8-1.
Niagara returns to action March 31 when it travels to Fairfield University for a noon match.
