NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s tennis team (3-1) opens the home portion of its spring schedule when it hosts Big Four rival the University at Buffalo (2-0) Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Sportsplex in Tonawanda.
The Purple Eagles dropped their last match, losing 6-1 at Cleveland State on Feb. 3. Junior Shella Dargout (Rochester, N.Y./East) registered the squad’s lone win, winning at No. 5 singles. She is 5-3 overall and 3-0 in dual matches.
Sophomore Vanja Lakic (Waterloo, Ont.) is 6-7 overall and 3-1 in dual matches at No. 1 singles. Senior Jennifer Cremieux (Ajax, Ont.) also sports a 3-1 dual record at No. 2 and is 4-2 overall. Playing No. 4 through No. 6, senior Jacquelyn Cary (Selkirk, N.Y.) is 5-4 overall and a 3-1 in dual matches.
In doubles, the duo of Cremieux and freshman Molly Mathews (Pittsburgh, Pa.) are 4-4 overall and 3-1 at No. 1. The No. 3 doubles team of junior Kim Roberts (Victoria, B.C.) and sophomore Victoria Tiso (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) have a 3-3 overall and 2-0 dual records.
Buffalo enters the match with a 2-0 record after shutting out St. Bonaventure, 7-0, on Jan. 28.
Senior Miglena Nenova is 2-0 in dual matches at No. 1 singles and teams with freshman Denise Harijanto at No. 1 doubles for a 2-0 record.
