Women’s Tennis Shut Out by Buffalo

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s tennis team (3-2) was shut out 7-0 by the University at Buffalo Sunday at the Sportsplex.

The Bulls won the doubles point, sweeping all three matches. Senior Jennifer Cremieux (Ajax, Ont.) and junior Shella Dargout (Rochester, N.Y.) lost 8-2 at No. 1 doubles to Miglena Nenova and Densie Harijanto. At No. 2, sophomore Vanja Lakic (Waterloo, Ont.) and junior Kim Roberts (Victoria, B.C.) lost 8-1 to Natalie Dean and Tina Jacob. The senior duo of Julianne Prokopich (Loretto, Ont.) and Jacquelyn Cary (Selkirk, N.Y.) lost 8-1 to Katrin Fischer and Diana Toia.

In singles, Lakic lost 6-1, 6-2 to Nenova at No. 1. Cremieux retired 4-0 vs. Dean at No. 2 and Prokopich lost 6-1, 6-0 to Harijanto.

Dargout was beaten in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 singles by Smaranda Stan. Cary lost 6-1, 6-3 to Jacob at No. 5 and sophomore Victoria Tiso (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) lost 6-1, 6-1 to Toia.

Niagara returns to action Feb. 17 when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y., to take on Colgate at 9 a.m.
