JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The Niagara University women’s tennis team (9-12) had its season ended Saturday when it lost to second-seeded Siena College, 4-1, at the Yanitelli Center.
Niagara took a 1-0 lead in the match when it won two of the three doubles matches. Senior Danielle Grenier (Fort Erie, Ont.) and junior Julianne Prokopich (Loretto, Ont.) defeated Sarah Mayer and Taylor Barvoets, 8-6 at No. 1. At No. 3 doubles, the freshman duo of Vanja Lakic (Waterloo, Ont.) and Victoria Tiso (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) beat Sugam Langer and Meghan Slenkamp, 8-2.
Siena took a 3-1 lead in the match when Prokopich lost to Denisa Hluchova, 6-4,k 6-1 at No. 3 singles. Grenier lost in three sets, 6-1, 0-6, 3-6 to Barvoets at No. 1 singles, and Lakic fell at No. 1, 6-1, 6-0.
Siena won the match when Davis beat Dargout, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
Cary was done 6-5 in the first set and sophomore Kim Roberts (Victoria, B.C.) was tied at 1-1 at No. 6 when the match ended.
