NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – Looking to snap a three-match losing streak, the Niagara University women’s tennis team (2-3, 0-0) opens the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference portion of its schedule when it hosts Saint Peter’s College (4-3, 0-1) Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Sportsplex in North Tonawanda.
The Purple Eagles, who last won a match Oct. 2, have dropped their last three matches, including a 7-0 loss to Cleveland State on Feb. 6.
Senior Danielle Greiner (Fort Erie, Ont.) will be looking for her first victory of the season at No. 1 singles after opening with a 0-4 record. Junior Julianne Prokopich (Loretto, Ont.), who did not play singles vs. the Vikings, is 3-0 in dual matches, while freshman Victoria Tiso (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) is 3-2 in dual matches.
In doubles, sophomore Kim Roberts (Victoria, B.C.) and freshman Vanja Lakic (Waterloo, Ont.) are 3-2 in dual matches at No. 2 and No. 3.
Saint Peter’s, who lost to Rider University, 6-0, in the fall, opens its spring schedule Saturday. The Peahens last played on Oct. 29 when they beat Fairleigh Dickinson University, 7-0. Saint Peter’s brings a two-match winning streak into Saturday’s match.
Junior Anglea Wiggs sports records of 5-3 overall and 5-2 in dual matches at No. 1 singles. She also teams with freshman Vanessa Pangikas at No. 1 doubles for a 1-4 overall and dual match records.
Last year, Niagara shutout Saint Peter’s, 7-0.
