NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – In its first dual match of the season, the Niagara University women’s tennis team (1-0) shutout Oakland University (0-1), 7-0, Saturday afternoon.
Double winners included seniors Jacquelyn Cary (Selkirk, N.Y.) and Jennifer Cremieux (Ajax, Ont.).
Cary and classmate Julianne Prokopich (Loretto, Ont.) beat Gabrielle Gogas and Lisa Lulgjuraj, 8-3 at No. 3 doubles, and Cary beat Jessica Erickson, 6-4, 7-5 at No. 5 singles.
Cremieux and freshman Molly Mathews (Pittsburgh, Pa.) won at No. 1 doubles, beating Amanda Scheer and Michelle Maxfield, 8-1. Cremieux then defeated Scheer 7-6 (1), 6-1 at No. 2 singles.
Niagara returns to action Sunday at 10 a.m. when it hosts St. Francis (Pa.).
