Women's Tennis Winning Streak Snapped


Senior Mariam Al-Shikarchy scored Niagara's lone point Sunday.

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s tennis teams’ (9-8, 5-1) 28-match Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular-season winning streak came to an end late Sunday when it lost 6-1 to Marist College at Sportsplex.

The Purple Eagles’ lone point came from senior Mariam Al-Shikarchy who defeated Yana Tikhonko, 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. The win keeps Al-Shikarchy undefeated at 29-0 in MAAC regular-season matches for her career.

Niagara’s only other win on the day was at No. 3 doubles. Senior Kendra Daigler and freshman Shella Dargout beat Courtney McGeever and Amy Albert, 8-1.

The Purple Eagles return to action April 15 when they host IUPUI at noon.
