NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – A two-match home stand resulted in two victories as the Niagara University women’s tennis team (2-0) shut out Saint Francis (Pa.) (0-3) 7-0 Sunday afternoon on the Monteagle Ridge courts.
Freshman Vanja Lakic (Waterloo, Ont.) ran her dual singles record to 5-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Ruxandra Ionescu at No. 1. Junior Rachael Lesniewski (Tonawanda/Kenmore East) and sophomore Paige Welch (Rochester, N.Y.) each picked up their first singles wins in dual action. Lesniewski defeated Johnna Jackson, 6-2, 6-1, and Welch downed Lauren Gamerro, 6-1, 6-1.
Niagara returns to action Oct. 8 when it plays Oakland at 10 a.m. in Rochester, Mich.
