Women’s Tennis Host Detroit, St. Francis (Pa.)

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s tennis team (0-2) returns to dual action this weekend when it hosts Detroit and St. Francis (Pa.) on the Monteagle Ridge campus. The Purple Eagles play the Titans (0-1) at 3 p.m. Friday and the Red Flashes (1-4) at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Niagara will be looking for its first dual match win of the season after dropping a pair on the road during the middle of September.

Senior Mariam Al-Shikarchy continues to lead the Purple Eagles. She sports a 4-1 overall record and a 2-0 mark in dual matches at No. 1. She also teams with junior Danielle Greiner at No. 1 doubles. The pair is undefeated at 3-0 overall and 2-0 in dual matches.

The No. 2 doubles team of sophomores Jacquelyn Cary and Julianne Prokopich also looks to remain undefeated in dual action

Detroit has played one dual match, falling 4-3 to Toledo at the end of September. The Titans also played in the Wittenberg Tournament.

Freshman Ashley Cummins has a 4-1 record in singles and is one of four players with winning marks.

St. Francis (Pa.) got its first win of the season this past weekend, beating Robert Morris 6-1. The Red Flashes were winless going into the match, losing to Cleveland State (7-0), at Mount Saint Mary’s (6-1), at Akron (6-0) and at Duquesne (6-1). St. Francis (Pa.) plays at Buffalo on Saturday.
