Niagara Women’s Tennis Completes Second Perfect MAAC Season


Junior Mariam Al-Shikarchy went undefeated in MAAC play for the second-straight year with a win Sunday.

LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s team completed its second perfect season in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference play with Sunday’s 6-1 dual win over Siena.

The Purple Eagles, now 13-0 overall and 7-0 in the MAAC, won the doubles point for the 12th time this season for a quick 1-0 lead.

Senior Milena Matijevic (Niagara Falls, Ont.) picked up a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Siena’s Denisa Hluchova. Mariam Al-Shikarchy (Fonthill, Ont.) recorded her seventh win in conference play with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Andrea Disponzio. Al-Shikarchy is 16-0 in the past two seasons of MAAC play.

Niagara is the top seed for the upcoming MAAC Championships held at Flushing Meadows, N.Y. The tournament starts Friday and concludes Sunday. The Purple Eagles are the defending champions.
