OLEAN, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s tennis team (5-0) won its second-straight match of the weekend when it beat St. Bonaventure (2-4), 6-1 today in Olean.Niagara won its fifth-straight doubles point of the year and swept all three matches for the fourth time this season. Junior Mariam Al-Shikarchy and sophomore Danielle Greiner defeated Natalie Rumpel and Lindsey Marsh, 8-2 at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, senior Kendra Daigler (North Tonawanda) and freshman Aditi Krishnan beat Jasmine Jaysingh and Stephanie Fosnight, 8-3. The freshman duo of Jacquelyn Cary and Julianne Prokopich improved to 3-0 on the season with a, 8-6 win over Morgan Marsh and Katie Tkacik.
In singles, Al-Shikarchy won her first match of the season at No. 1 with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Rumpel. At No. 2, Greiner beat Fosnight, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Krishnan won her third match of the year at No. 3 when she beat Lindsey Marsh, 6-2, 6-2. Cary picked up her first win of the season at No. 5, defeating Morgan Marsh, 6-0, 6-4. Prokopich was victorious over Tkacik at No. 6, 6-2, 6-1. Daigler lost her match at No. 4, 6-0, 7-6 (3) to Jaysingh.
Niagara returns to action Feb. 21 when it travels to Hamilton, N.Y., to play Bloomsburg at 9 a.m. and then host Colgate at 4 p.m.
