NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Niagara University women’s tennis team improved to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Sunday with a 7-0 shutout of Saint Peter’s College (0-7) at the Sportsplex.
The shutout was the Purple Eagles third straight and fourth overall.
Niagara opend the match with a sweep of the double matches for the eighth time this season. Senior Milena Matijevic and freshman Aditi Krishnan beat Murija Dkujic and Angela Higgs at No. 1 doubles, 8-2. The freshman duo of Jacquelyn Cary and Julianne Prokopich moved to 5-2 overall with an 8-0 victory over Joelle Velasco and Sabrina Housanna. At No. 3, freshmen Rachel Lesniewski and Kristen McInerney won their first collegiate doubles match with an 8-0 win over Nita Anatosua and Camille Moise.
In singles, Matijevic won her 16th match of the season and third in the MAAC with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Dkujic. At No. 2, junior Mariam Al-Shikarchy beat Higgs, 6-0, 6-0, and sophomore Danielle Greiner also shutout Velasco, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3.
Krishnan remained undefeated in league play with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Housanna at No. 4. Senior Kendra Daigler won her second match of the weekend with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Anatosua at No. 5. Cary was also victorious at No. 6, beating Moise, 6-0, 6-0.
