LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The Niagara University women’s tennis team (2-0, 1-0) won its second match of the season and its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference match of the year with a 7-0 victory over Rider (1-4, 0-1) Saturday afternoon at the Rider Campus Courts.
Senior Milena Matijevic won her 11-straight match of the season when she beat Amanda Doetsch 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Junior Mariam Al-Shikarchy improved to 4-2 on the season with a straight-set victory, 6-0, 6-0, over Meredith Dossin at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 singles, freshman Aditi Krishnan downed Carolina Duval, 6-0, 7-5, and improved to 5-3 overall. Junior Kendra Daigler (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) registered her first singles win of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dana Previti. Rookie Julianne Propkopich defeated J. Logan Kapinus, 6-0, 6-4 at No. 5 and classmate Jacquelyn Cary beat Kelly-Ann Chouinard, 6-2, 6-4 at No. 6.
In doubles, Matijevic and Krishnan defeated Doetsch and Dossin 8-1 at No. 1. At No. 2, sophomore Danielle Greiner played her first match of the season and teamed with Al-Shikarchy to beat Previti and Kapinus, 8-3, at No. 2. The duo of Propkopich and Cary bested Stefanie Petrasko and Toni-Lynn Gross, 8-3.
Niagara returns to action Sunday when it travels to Baltimore, Md., to play Loyola at 2 p.m. on the Butler Courts.
