Baseball Earns Victory Over Little Three Rival St. Bonaventure

Olean, NY - Niagara baseball earned a 7-6 victory against Little Three rival St. Bonaventure Tuesday afternoon.

The Purple Eagles improved to 20-15-1, while the Bonnies fell to 12-29-1.

Saint Bonaventure struck first in the bottom of the first as Antonio Cordeiro singled up the middle to plate Anthony Fernandez.

Niagara knotted things up at one in the top of the third when Nick Cote doubled to right center to score Nate Milk.

Purple Eagles starter Andrew Baumgart threw 2.0 innings, allowing one run on four hits with one strikeout before John Ondus came in for relief.

Niagara took the lead in the top of the fourth with a sacrifice fly off the bat of Matthew Ganschow that brought home Noah Konings.

Ondus' day came to an end after the fourth, tossing two scoreless, one hit innings. Ethan McNish-Heider came in to start the fifth.

McNish-Heider threw a scoreless fifth inning and gave way to Johnny Montgomery.

The Bonnies took the lead back in the bottom of the sixth starting with an RBI single that plated Alex Hebenstreit, followed by a sac fly from Eamon Giblin that scored Ashton Ross.

Rece Allensworth came in to throw the seventh inning. St. Bonaventure extended their lead to 4-2 in the top of the seventh as Miguel Castro scored on a Joey Calabretti RBI single.

The Purple Eagles took the lead in the top of the eighth plating four runs starting with a bases loaded walk from Ganschow, followed by a hit by pitch. Carter Aarts scored Jason Green, Milk plated Ganschow with a single to left field and Nick Cote hit a sac fly to bring home McKay to end the inning and give Niagara a 7-4 lead.

Eddie Dolansky came on for the eighth and threw a scoreless frame. The Bonnies tried mounting a comeback in the ninth, plating two runs, but Andrew Damiani closed the door earning the save.

Niagara is now 65-66-6 all-time against St. Bonaventure

Kozar extended his on base streak to 14 games

Brooks grew his on-base streak to 17 games

Damiani earned his 10th save of the season

The Purple Eagles return to conference play taking on Rider for a three-game series starting Friday May 1 at Bobo Field.
