PITTSFORD, N.Y. — The Niagara University women's track and field team turned in one of the meet's most complete performances Saturday at the St. John Fisher Cardinal Classic, sweeping the top two spots in the 100-meter dash finals and capturing the 4x100 relay title.
Clara Barr headlined the day for the Purple Eagles, winning the 100-meter hurdles final in 14.77. Sophia Waliszewski joined her on the podium, clocking 15.45 at and finish second.
In the open sprints, Soraya Ross took gold in the 100-meter dash finals with a time of 12.41 seconds, while Dallis Jones finished just behind in 12.48. Deborah Borysewicz, who advanced from the 100-meter prelims, shifted her focus to the 200-meter dash and placed second overall with a time of 25.89.
The Purple Eagles' relay unit of Jones, Ross, Hannah Adderley-Julien and Borysewicz combined to win the 4x100 relay in 48.07 seconds.
Adderley-Julien also made her mark in the field, winning the long jump at 5.50 meters. Tiffany Clausell added a sixth-place finish in the long jump at 4.79 meters.
Olivia Meier won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 11:51.53, while Alexa Briggs captured the 1,500-meter run in 4:45.40. Megan Jackson contributed with a fourth-place finish in the shot put at 11.13 meters and third in the discus at 34.22 meters.
